Obituaries – John W. Donaldson

John W. Donaldson Jr., 56, of Leavitt Lane, died August 23 of an apparent heart attack at Community Memorial Hospital in Toms River. Mr. Donaldson retired in 1979 after 12 years as owner and operator of Griggs Corner American service station at Witherspoon and Hulfish streets.

Born in Nanty-Glo, Pa., he was a Princeton resident for more than 35 years. He worked in the plumbing and heating department at Princeton University, and at Nassau Oil, before going into business for himself.

He was past president of Princeton Hook and Ladder Fire Company, where he was a member for more than 25 years; past master of Princeton Lodge No. 38, F. & A.M.; and a member of the Princeton Shrine Club. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 76. He also served on the Ushers Guild of All Saints Chapel. He was Worthy Patron of the Princeton Chapter No. 91, O.E.S.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria Bonner Donaldson; a son, Craig John Donaldson of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter. Mrs. Diane Lee Pensky of Hamilton Square; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Donaldson Sr. of Orange City, Fla; a brother, Thomas Donaldson of Spring, Tex.; four sisters, Agnes Deretz of Nichols. N Y., Esther Miller of Alexandria, Va., Mary Jane Goodenough of Owego, N.Y., and Madeline T. Donaldson of Seattle, Wash; and one granddaughter.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in All Saints Chapel with the Rev. A. Orley Swartzentruber officiating. Burial will be in Trinity-All Saints Cemetery.
