Princeton Jaycees donate great road race profits
Al ceremonies held recently at the Colross Mansion of the Princeton Day School, the Greater Princeton Jaycees donated funds raised by the 1983 Great Road Race to four local charities: the Princeton Day School Scholarship Fund, the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, the Princeton YMCA, and the Princeton chapter of the American Red Cross.
The Great Road Race raised $1,650 this annual spring event, which serves as the kickoff for the Princeton area running season. The Great Road Race is the first of two annual running events organized by the Greater Princeton Jaycees. The second is the Princeton Half Marathon, scheduled for September.
Anne Knudsen-Fitzpatrick, president and director of the Princeton Nautilus and Fitness Center, and Elaine Crocker, assistant vice president of the Commodities Corp., were co-sponsors of the race and were on hand to assist Jaycee community development vice president Sue White in presiding over the presentations. Due to previous commitments, race coordinator Maureen Nosal could not attend the ceremonies.
Robert Ennis, executive director of the Princeton chapter of the American Red Cross was on hand to receive a check for $200 to aid the organizations life-giving activities.
Representing the Princeton Day School, director of development David Bogle accepted a $300 check earmarked for the schools Scholarship Fund.
Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad president Mark Freda received a check for $550 to aid the squad in providing first aid and rescue service to both the township and borough of Princeton.
Also on hand was John Matune, fitness -director of the Princeton YMCA, to accept a check in the amount of $600 to aid the YMCA in its many programs. Plans are already underway for the second of the Greater Princeton Jaycees annual road race events, September’s Princeton Half Marathon.
The Greater Princeton Jaycees is entering its 30th year as a community-oriented service organization that traditionally raises funds through a variety of activities, such as the two annual road races, to donate to the many Princeton area charities and service groups.
