Police are treating the drowning of a Humbert Street resident, whose body vas discovered floating in Lake Carnegie Wednesday, as accidental until the results of an autopsy are revealed today, Friday.
The body of Michael A. Cirullo, 45, of 28 Humbert St., Princeton Borough, was spotted by Dinky train passengers at 2:20 p.m. as the commuter train crossed a railroad bridge spanning Lake Carnegie, police said. Two hours later, the body was removed from the lake and taken to the Mercer County morgue to be examined, police said.
Police and first aid squad members waited until the arrival of Medical Examiner Dr. Raafat Ahmad, who pronounced Mr. Cirullo dead at the scene, in order to move the body.
Mr. Cirullo was identified immediately by some officers there, including police Capt. John Petrone who said he knew the victim for several years.
“When I knew him, he was a laborer. But he’s been ill, handicapped and had seizures,” the captain said, adding the victim worked in construction before being sidelined with health problems.
Police said Mr. Cirullo was wearing a red shirt and lightweight blue and white pants at the time of his death. When found, he was also still wearing his glasses and his wallet was still in his pocket, police said.
The lieutenant said late Thursday he was still investigating information that Mr. Cirullo was last seen alive earlier Wednesday but he declined to elaborate.
Lt. Samuel Bianco said autopsy results, including time and cause of death, are expected to be released today, Friday.
The victim is survived by three daughters, Teresa Ann, Catherine Marie, and Wanda Michelle and a son, John Vincent, all of Cranbury; former wife, Charlotte Wanda Cirullo; his parents, Catherine and Anthony M. Cirullo Sr., with whom he lived; 1 sister, Frances L. Jones of Lawrence Township, and a brother, Anthony M Cirullo Jr. of Princeton. He was the grandson of the late Francisco and Theresa Lamantia Burratti.
The funeral will be held at the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Princeton. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends may call today, Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
