15 flee gas leak
PRINCETON TOWNSHIP —About 15 people from a dozen homes were evacuated as a precaution yesterday after a construction crew installing a fence punctured a 2-inch natural gas main, police said.
No one was injured in the incident about 12:50 p.m. on Glen Drive near Mountain Avenue, said police Lt. Peter Savalli.
A crew from Bob White’s construction in Pennington was digging post holes for a residential fence when they accidentally bore into the main, Savalli said.
Police closed the area to traffic and evacuated the residents. One of the township’s fire companies stood by, but fortunately were not needed, Savalli said.
Residents were allowed back and the roads reopened about .2:35 p.m. after Public Service Electric & Gas crews capped the leak, Savalli said.
PSE&G crews remained at the site for several more hours making repairs.
