Man, 60, Rescued From Bank Street House
Fire A 60-year-old Princeton man remained in serious condition following his dramatic rescue from a fire which destroyed a Bank Street house about 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
James A. Howley of 29 Bank St. suffered second and third degree burns and smoke inhalation in the general alarm fire which brought out more than 100 firemen and six pieces of equipment at 7:57 a.m.
Mr. Howley was rescued by three volunteer firemen who went into the house to search for trapped victims. After fighting flames, heat and smoke, the firemen found Mr. Howley unconscious in a bedroom on the second floor of the three-story house.
The victim’s breathing stopped shortly after he was brought out of the burning house, Albert Toto, member of the Princeton First Aid Squad, reported. Mouth to mouth resuscitation and heart massage were applied to the victims by members of the First Aid Squad for about 10 minutes on the scene and on the way to the hospital.
Mr. Howley began to breathe again on his own en route to the Princeton Hospital. Mr. Toto said. Mouth to mouth resuscitation was applied by Raymond and William Rodweller, and hear massage was applied by Albert Toto and Dewitt Boyce, all members of the First Aid Squad.
