An arsonist torched a car parked at the Westminster Choir College Monday morning, according to Princeton Fire Chief Mark Freda. Volunteers then got a few hours’ time to wrap hoses and pack their gear before the next alarm sounded.
A fire sparked in the grill area at the American Diner on Nassau Street had firefighters on the scene shortly past 4 p.m., Mr. Freda said “One of our firefighters who works just across the street was there just as borough police were arriving,” he noted.
“It was a gas fire that started in a drip pan under the grill,” Mr. Freda said. Two store employees ‘`tried to put out the fire but were unsuccessful.” he added.
The fleet-footed volunteer fire-man grabbed a fire extinguisher and began to tight the small flancati. himself, Mr.’Freda noted.
“He was using the fire extinguisher and was just putting the fire out when the trucks pulled up he said.
The pair of employees and a borough police officer were treated at the Medical Center at Princeton and released, officials said.
Just over an hour later, reports came in to police headquarters of smoke pouring of ducts at the Princeton YMCA building on Paul Robeson Place.
Approximately 50 people had to be evacuated while investigators searched the building.
Although no fire was found, officials concluded that an alarm was advocated by heat from the building’s boiler.
