5 August 1981
On Aug. 6 at 2:34 p.m. police were alerted to smoke seeping from the eaves of the Walnut Lane home of Donald Griffin. Police then called in a general alarm to the Princeton Fire Department to combat a kitchen fire.
Police reported that the home received extensive smoke and water damage and that the kitchen was destroyed by fire. Fire Chief Ralph Hulit traced the cause of the fire to a hot plate in the kitchen. Mr. Griffin had been away from the house since Aug. 1 at the time of the fire, according to police.
