Police said a March 8 fire caused $500 worth of damage to a car owned by a Princeton University graduate student.
The Volkswagen, owned by John H. Sloan, caught fire at 12:10 a.m. while parked in lot No. 19 near Springdale Road, police said. The fire started in the carburetor, police said, and spread to the rest of the engine. The Princeton Hook & Ladder company responded, police said.

A Public Service Electric & Gas power line, blown down by high winds March 8, was the cause of a brush fire on Cherry Hill Road, police said. The downed line sparked and caused the fire, which spread to an area about 50 feet in diameter, police said. Firefighters from Princeton Engine Co. No. 1 hosed the blaze down shortly after it started at 7:15 a.m., police said. The fire was located on William Bittinger’s property, police said.
